산문에서의 미(美)는 온화하고 조용해서 거의 느낄 수 없다. 그림에서의 아름다움은 직관적으로 느껴지는 반면 책에서 느껴지는 아름다움은 목소리나 얼굴의 매력처럼 은연하게 작용한다.

Beauty in prose is only a gentle and imperceptible force. In a painting it shines forth at the very first sight; in a book it hides itself; it acts by persuasion like the charm of a voice or a face. 

글은 우리를 강제하지 않고, 은연하게 유혹한다. 그러니까 독자는 산문이 가진 아름다운 매력에 빠져놓고는 그 글의 내용에 의해 설복당한 것 같이 생각하는 것이다.

우리는 '문학적인 옷'을 추구합니다. '문학적인 옷'이 무엇인지, 실제로 구현이 가능한 것인지 알지 못합니다. 그러나 온화하고 조용해서 거의 느낄 수 없는 아름다움, 목소리나 얼굴에서 느낄 수 있는 매력처럼 은연한 아름다움이 존재한다는 사실을 알고 있습니다.

We pursue 'Literary clothing.' We don't know exactly what 'Literary clothing' is or whether it can truly be realized. However, We do know that there exists a kind of beauty that is gentle and quiet, almost imperceptible—like the charm found in a voice or a face.

옷과 문학을 같은 선상에 둘 수 없는 게 아닐까 질문하게 됩니다. 불확실하고 무의미한 목표이지만 그것을 추구해나가다보면 조금은 가까워질 수 있을 것이라는 낙관적인 희망을 갖고 있습니다.

We ask ourselves whether clothing and literature can truly be placed on the same line. It is an uncertain and seemingly meaningless goal, yet we hold an optimistic hope that by continuing to pursue it, we may come a little closer.
